IF-E New Engine

First, hello to all the forum participants and viewers. As per topic´s subject, I´m proceeding to change the engine in my IF-E. The old original Volvo is long ago gone, till now I was using a 6hp outboard but would be better to have an inboard engine. The question is which one and how many hp? I´ve seen on the net Marieholm 26´:es with as much as 16hp. I was thinking of 10hp Tohatsu origin (Beta or Nanni) but now I´m afraid that perhaps 14-16 hp would be better. If there´s anybody that have suggestions, these are certainly appreciated!

Only a small comment to the required power: I think that more than 10 hp is not reasonable. According to my opinion 5 hp is enough. I used 5 hp outboard engine. Later I changed to 8 hp outboard, but I run it at halve the power with the advantage that it is not so noisy.
You can look at this engine: http://www.dolphinengines.co.uk/service.php. But it is gasoline engine, not diesel one.

I too have fitted the Dolphin http://www.dolphinengines.co.uk/docs/Series_II_spec.pdf it is 12 hp but can be bored out to 16 hp.; in my view that is unnecessary. I have a 3 bladed feathering prop from Darglow, this pushes it a long much better than the 10 hp Volvo MD2B which it replaced. Also the engine only weighs 54 kg compared to 165 for the MD2, also it can be started with a small motor cycle 12v battery or by spinning the flywheel with a webbing starter cord. It meant that I have had fit some lead (100 kilo) ballast and so for most of the time I retain the old battery as well for lights etc. The engine is remarkably smooth and using a synthetic oil is very clean compared to the exhaust "clag"from the diesel. Caution the gear box spins the opposite direction to the volvo but this has been no problem as Darglow reset the prop. RH. Expect I am a little late with this advice but good luck !
